The 2016 PAIAM Conference

The PAIAM Annual Conference took place on the afternoon of Wednesday 18 May 2016 at the Royal Academy of Arts. We were most grateful for PAIAM member Anna Dempster’s help in securing this very special venue.

The event began with the opportunity to view the “Age of Giorgione” exhibition.

Speakers and panelists included; Wendy Philips, Sotheby's; Toby Crooks, Rawlinson and Hunter; Susan Johnson, Bircham Dyson Bell on Planning for international collectors in the UK and Responsibilities for Trustees owning art; Christopher Le Brun PRA, President of the Royal Academy talked from 'The Artist's Perspective'.  Following this there was the 'Big Debate: Should the Art Market be Regulated?' which was chaired by Anna Dempster and included Ludovic de Walden, Bird and Bird; Dr. Bendor Grosvenor; Corinne Herschkovitch, Borgese Associés and Robert Hiscox. Votes were taken before and after the debate and results showed a shift in the majority viewpoint.  The closing address was by Dr Charles saumarez Smith, CBE, Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Arts. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and conversations are already underway on how we can build on this in 2017 and beyond.
